If you’re living with arthritis pain, you know first-hand how much of a negative impact it can have on your overall wellbeing. Arthritis can keep you from enjoying your daily routine, participating in activities with friends and family, and even prevent you from peaceful leisure time. In fact, osteoarthritis is the most common pain condition in patients 65 and older.
There are several pain remedies out there for arthritis pain, including physiotherapy. InSync Wellness is proud to offer our patients living with this condition the GLA:D™ program!

What is GLA:D™ Canada?
GLA:D™ stands for Good Life With Arthritis:Denmark. GLA:D™ Canada was developed in Denmark, and it involves an 8-week education course and targeted neuromuscular exercise program. It is an evidence-based program that offers treatment and pain management solutions for patients living with symptoms of hip and/or knee osteoarthritis.
Bone and Joint Canada is currently using this program to help patients in need, and the Canadian Orthopaedic Foundation also supports it as well. Previously, the program has produced positive outcomes for patients up to 1 year after graduating!
After 1 year, follow-up results show:
- A 27% reduction in pain intensity
- A 37% & 45% reduction in the use of joint-related pain medications for knee and hip osteoarthritis
- 10% reduction in sick days for patients with knee osteoarthritis
- 10% increase in walking speed
- Over 30% increase in self-reported physical activity levels
According to GladCanada’s website, over 83% of patients find the program beneficial, and 90% of patients use the education at least once per week. Over half of these patients report a clinically meaningful change in their function and quality of life, and approximately 70% of patients show significant improvement in their function.
What should I expect?
Initially, you will have an assessment with a Insync Wellness physiotherapist certified to administer the GLA:D™ Canada program.
You can expect to participate in two 90 minute education sessions, each one week apart, as well as twelve 60 minute group exercise classes held twice per week.
During the program, data about your overall levels of function, discomfort, and quality of life will be collected. Your InSync Wellness physiotherapist will be with you every step of the way to ensure your safety, progress, and overall satisfaction when treatment is over.
